In April 2025, our first commercial cargo of vanilla beans set sail across the Atlantic Ocean, powered entirely by wind. Thanks to our partnership with Grain de Sail, this journey from Saint-Malo, France, to New York City cut ocean transport emissions by up to 95% compared to traditional shipping methods.
We’re proud to launch North America’s first product line that’s both Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) and Committed for Wind-Powered Shipping certified.

What does that mean? ROC is the gold standard for organic agriculture, focusing not just on the planet but also on people, prioritizing soil health, animal welfare, and fair working conditions. When you see our new Committed to Wind-Powered Shipping logo, you’ll know you're choosing a product that’s doing even more to reduce emissions from global supply chains.
Across France’s west coast, from Cherbourg to La Rochelle, a new wave of innovation is taking shape—some call it the "Silicon Valley of sail freight."
Earlier this year, we deepened our commitment to lower carbon transport by signing a Letter of Intent with Windcoop, a French shipping cooperative building the next generation of wind-powered cargo vessels. Vanilla Bean Project is proud to be the only North American company investing in and committing to ship its goods with Windcoop.
As part of this partnership, Vanilla Bean Project plans to ship its vanilla beans from Madagascar to France aboard Windcoop’s wind-powered cargo vessel, and from France to the United States via established French-based sail-cargo logistics leader, Grain de Sail.
Our ROC Pure Vanilla Extract and ROC Pure Vanilla Paste—available in both retail and foodservice formats—will soon proudly carry the Committed to Wind-Powered Shipping logo. These same products will also be offered in bulk to food brands and manufacturers looking to build lower-emission supply chains and offer climate-conscious menu options.
By choosing vanilla transported by wind, you’re helping spark real change by encouraging more shipbuilders, investors, and businesses to join this exciting movement.
